Alt Summit Roundtable: Carving Out Time for Creative Pursuits & Balancing Family
Thank you for spending time with us today! It meant so much to us to have you join in on these important conversations.
Tips to Carve Out Time for Art (or whatever it is you want to do!)
Be clear on what you want to focus on.
Is that making a new body of work? Is it learning a new skill? Is it taking a pause to focus on your family and let ideas incubate? If you have a clear goal, when you “find” blocks of time, you can jump right into your studio easily!
Break larger goals into tasks.
Batch processes when you can.
Be realistic with your time.
Time your tasks so you have a realistic idea of how long things take.
Don’t underestimate how much you can get done in 20 minutes! Moms are EFFICIENT!
Give yourself buffer times in your deadlines to allow for unexpected.
Underpromise / overdeliver.
Prioritize. Prioritize. and Re-Prioritize as needed.
What is most important? What do you most need? What will fill your cup and make your life easier / more fulfilling / less stressful.
Allow yourself time to be “selfish” with your time. Even if it’s 5 minutes.
You’ll probably be more refreshed and patient, and may have spent that small amount of time scrolling your phone or doing something else.
Encouragement & Being Gentle With Yourself
You can do anything, but not everything — especially not all at once. There are seasons to everything. That’s okay!
Be gentle with yourself.
Remember that no matter how perfect and beautiful it may appear that someone else’s life may be, they have their own struggles.
You have your whole life to be creative. It’s a way of life. It’s not determined by what you do daily.
Even 5 minutes can be go a long way over time (think compound creative interest).
